2021: If you want #high #fidelity, that’s #large #bandwidth — and was that more valuable than just a #picture? A #picture in many cases did the exact same thing, [it] could go through at a higher #resolution, #inform the #decision #better. But we were going #video. We learned that different #wavelengths and which way we share that #information also allows us to either move #faster, or to #inform that #decision in a #better way.

Early 1990s:
A #multimedia production, with its digitized #sound & #graphics, is a real disk hog – one #second of #CD-quality #stereo #sound takes up approximately 170K of storage. A single full-screen #image requires about 1.5 MB of storage. Without compression, a 30 frames per second (fps) still-motion #video would require 45 MB per second.

Mid-to-Late 1990s: The important point realized in testing our #Web #sites using the least #bandwidth- and #processor-#hungry devices was that we needed to #test for the #majority #user #base that mattered to us as we were #competing #globally. This was the era when our #interview on #WorldWideWeb #usability in InformationWeek observed how the experience of seeing even prominent Web sites such as Santa Fe Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Society for Organizational Learning North America download would compete with the experience of #watching #paint #dry. Similar issues are anticipated to influence today’s mainstream #adoption and #use of #wireless and #mobile #devices and related #platforms with those reliant upon #cryptography or #encryption in particular.
