#MuchAdoAboutNothing: How #ChatGPT Self-Incriminates #OpenAI in 3 Simple Questions:

I had my undergrads I was teaching AI 25 years ago trip [‘singularity’] Ray #Kurzweil’s #AI-avataar #Ramona on a single question… Based on seeing all #overhype with #Microsoft ponying up $10 Billion for #ChatGPT, let me shine some light on the #overhype by my first and only #interaction with ChatGPT… So reproduced below is my first and only #chat with ChatGPT… which behaved very predictably as ALL IT-systems are EXPECTED to behave. No #surprises here… Nothing earth-shattering or #competitive needle-moving ‘#surprise’ here…

Recall it is the ‘surprise’ that matters… all else, as you already know, is ‘old news’ with zero #information #value:

Leading Global #Change-#Uncertainty-#Complexity

[All IT-based systems behave predictably, their ‘behavior’ can be predictably ‘inferred’ from 100,000s of hours of #experience and #inutition. #Human #systems and #sociotechnical #systems such as #financial #trading #markets and #physical #natural #systems like #global #weather #systems are relatively more #complex and #uncertain to #model… more #chaotic with highly unpredictable #high #impact #catastrophic #risks, and hence more “interesting”.]

Q. Who will be sentenced if ChatGPT is accused of a specific #crime?

As a machine learning model, ChatGPT does not have the capacity to commit a crime or be held responsible for one. Criminal responsibility and legal accountability are generally only applied to natural persons, not artificial intelligence systems.
It is the company or individual who have trained the chatbot, that would be held responsible for any illegal use of the model.

Q. Who is the trainer of ChatGPT (I already knew the answer…)

ChatGPT is a language model that was developed and trained by OpenAI, a private artificial intelligence research laboratory consisting of the for-profit OpenAI LP and its parent company, the non-profit OpenAI Inc. The model was trained by a team of researchers and engineers at OpenAI using a technique called unsupervised learning, which involved training the model on a large dataset of text in order to learn patterns of language and improve its ability to generate human-like text.

Q. So, based upon your responses, OpenAI will be sentenced if ChatGPT is accused of the specific crime

“In any case, OpenAI would have the legal responsibility and would be held accountable if their product is used in illegal activities.”
