Some blamed overreliance on intermittent wind and solar power for the supply shortfall, while others highlighted that oil and gas production, pipelines and gas-fired power plants were similarly ill-equipped to handle icy temperatures… Critics also pointed to the structure of ERCOT’s energy-only market, where generators are paid for producing energy but not for keeping reserve capacity on standby to meet future demand peaks.
